Cameron Mitchell tossed his pen on the desk as he wondered, not for the first time, why he wanted to run a private charter business in Iowa of all places. It wasn’t business that had him frustrated, that was going great actually, no. It was one of his pilots. John Sheppard, part owner and head pilot of Sheppard Helicopter Tours. Cam was hopelessly devoted and John seemed to be in love with some hippie named Chaya.
He knew this because they had been kissing as she went around balancing everyone’s chakras and saying that Cameron had done well in choosing his location because the spirits around were really impressed or something like that. Cam didn’t like to trash anyone’s lifestyle choices, he had his own, but she was a flake in all things. Plus he just didn’t like her. She was competition in a fight no one knew they were having over John.
“Maybe I should start considering finding someone else,” Cameron sighed and leaned back in his chair, rubbing his face. “But I don’t want too,” he said, speaking to the empty office.

Cameron walked across the strip, seeing John’s helicopter and his Cessna Mustang and Cessna Corvalis TTX sitting there, looking pristine and beautiful in the cold air. He was wearing the slightly ridiculous aviator hat that John got him as a joke. He knew he had it bad, to wear the thing, but John got it for him and hell, he sort of liked it. It was nice having something John had given him on. God, he had a problem.
“Cam!” John yelled, running up to join him. He smirked, seeing the hat. “You’re wearing the hat,” John said, his eyes lit with laughter.
“It keeps my head warm. This place would fall apart without me here so it’s not like I can get sick,” Cam told him dryly.
“Plus we’d be down a pilot,” John pointed out.
“Yeah, that too. Even if I’m back up for Evan at this point,” Cam said, regretfully.
John shrugged. “So, I had a call this morning.”
“Yeah? What’s up?”
“Just a job. You’ve heard of Teyla Emmagen, right?”
“Isn’t she that singer? Really famous?” Cam asked.
“That’s the one. She wants to take a Helicopter tour.”
Cam grinned. “Holy crap! That is… Wow. That will be fantastic for business.”
“Yup,” John told him, looking pleased.
“When will they be here?”
“Tomorrow. She’s sending one of her security guys to come check it out later today though.”
Cam took off his hat and looked down at his work clothes. “We best clean up.”
“You don’t have to clean up much,” John told him with another shrug.
Cam blinked. “Um. Thank you,” he told him. “But I meant mostly the offices and the hangar…”
“Oh. Oh! Yeah. Right. But I mean… I suppose we should dress up a little?”
“Yeah. Might be for the best.”
“I’ll go… clean up my space. And stuff.”
Cam nodded and hesitated. “Sure. That’s good. Guess we’ll get started?”
“Yeah.”
They looked at each other then walked away, separating and getting busy. Cam tried not to think about John, knowing that even if the guy was into guys, he had just ruined it.

Teyla Emmagen was amazing.
She was down to Earth, caring and really nice.
Cam tried to focus on that while she clung to John’s arm and he looked at her, smiling. He tried so hard not to be jealous, but damn if he didn’t feel like his skin was green.
Of course he was in love with her. John had broken up with that Chaya chick. He was DEFINITELY straight. Cam had been foolish and lost his heart to a straight person. They were all longtime friends apparently. Ronon Dex, her security guy, had mentioned it. They were all real chummy and Cam tried his hardest not to be rude.
So far, so good.
John smiled at him, waving him over. Cam walked over to the trio, smiling back.
“Hey, we’re going to take off. Teyla doesn’t have much free time,” John told him.
“You guys enjoy,” Cam told them. “Ms. Emmagen, it was a pleasure meeting you. My cousins are huge fans.”
“Thank you, Mr. Mitchell. It’s great to hear that,” Teyla told him graciously as she smiled. Ronon helped her get into the cockpit then got in.
“I should be back soon. You want to catch dinner with us?”
“Nah. I’ve got some paperwork to take care of. Sorry,” Cam told him, needing to just not be around them.
John nodded, looking faintly disappointed. “Alright then. See you in a few hours.”
“Yup,” Cam agreed, planning on cutting out early.

Cam knew he had to do something… It was getting to the point of stupidity. He stood up and walked over to John’s office, determined to end this once and for all.
“Cam. Hey,” John said, smiling at him. “Man, you missed a great dinner. I’m sorry that you had to go.”
Cam nodded. “Yeah, I’m really sorry about that,” he told him. “John… I have to tell you something.”
John looked at him. “Oh God, do you have cancer or something?”
“What? No. God, no. I’m healthy. But,” Cam hesitated, looking at John as he tried to burn the image in his mind. “John. I love you,” he admitted. “It doesn’t matter that I feel this way. Being this close to you is enough. Even though you could never feel the same as I do… Being friends with you is enough,” Cam told him as John stood there in shock. Cam felt his cheeks burn as he stood there, ashamed and knowing he could never have him.
John stood up and Cam swallowed, ready to get decked.
“I… Fuck, took you long enough, you ass,” John told him as he pulled him close and kissed him on the lips.
